Common use

Zestoretic is a combination of two drugs. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic medication while Lisinopril belongs to the class of drugs called ACE inhibitors. The first prevents body from absorbing too much salt, which can cause fluid retention, and the second lowers blood pressure and also relieves symptoms of fluid retention.

Dosage and direction

Take exactly as it was prescribed to you, do not change your dose without your doctor's permission. Take each dose with a glass of water regardless to a meal.

Precautions

Avoid drinking alcohol. Avoid salt substitutes containing potassium. If you have disorders of liver or kidney, lupus, asthma, gout, diabetes, congestive heart failure or pregnant consult your doctor first than to take Zestoretic. While you are taking Zestoretic, your blood pressure will need to be checked regularly.

Contraindications

Anuria, hypersensitivity to the components of Zestoretic, in patients who had angioedema (swelling of face, extremities, eyes, lips, tongue, difficulty in swallowing or breathing) in their history.

Possible side effect

Seek for immediate medical help if such symptoms are observed while taking Zerstoretic: high potassium (slow heart rate, weak pulse, muscle weakness, tingly feeling), low potassium (confusion, uneven heart rate, extreme thirst, increased urination, leg discomfort, muscle weakness or limp feeling), thirst, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, drowsiness, skin rash jaundice urinating less than usual swelling, weight gain and any serious symptom of allergy (hives, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat).

Drug interaction

NSAIDs may diminish the antihypertensive effect of ACE inhibitors. When Zestoretic is administered concomitantly with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in patients with compromised renal function the further deterioration of renal function may occur. Use of Zestoretic with potassium-sparing diuretics may lead to significant increases in serum potassium. Zestoretic increases lithium toxicity, may influence when cholestyramine and gold injections are used for treatment of certain diseases.

Missed dose

If you missed a dose take it as soon as you remember, but if it is almost time of your next intake just skip the missed dose. Do not try to compensate a missed dose by taking an extra one.

Overdose

If you suspect that you took too much of Zestoretic and experience nausea, weakness, dizziness, dry mouth, thirst, muscle pain or weakness seek for immediate medical attention.

Storage

The medication should be stored at room temperature 15-30 C (59-86 F) in a light- resistant box.
